Network marketing and MLM has received quite the reputation from the masses over the years. If you have ever approached anyone with a MLM business opportunity you have heard things like:

Is that one of those pyramid schemes?

Those things never work!

That is a scam.

These lines usually come from the people who gave up dreaming a long time ago. They go to their jobs everyday just waiting for the weekend to come again. If you are a network marketer/ MLMer you have already decided you are sick of that song and dance.

To be quite honest there is a shift is society taking place. Jobs are being taken out of our country and masses of people are being laid off from what used to be good paying jobs. This has many more people taking a second look at MLM.

Do you think MLM is a scam?

First let's see what the dictionary defines a scam as.

Dictionary.com Unabridged (v 1.1)

Scam

-noun

1. A confidence game or other fraudulent scheme, esp. for making a quick profit; swindle.

-verb (used with object)

2. To cheat of defraud with a scam.

From this definition we can make a judge if the MLM business opportunity is a scam. A confidence game or other fraudulent scheme does not describe your average network marketing company. Some of these companies have been in business for 50 years or more. If they were fraudulent they would have been shut down by now.

The scam theory that some people develop seems to come from the business presentation. They are presented this awesome pay plan that they just have to find three who find three. The promise of it being easy is most likely where the scam idealism starts. It just grows after each failure experience until the definition of scam gets hooked to the MLM name.

While most network marketing companies are legit be aware of the scams. Just like in any business model there are a few fraudulent people who start network marketing companies too. Do your homework on the company so you can be assured it is a good business!

Another good indicator that MLM business opportunities are the real deal is by the amount of millionaires that are created every day by them. Even with a greater than 95% failure rate in the industry a small percentage of people still find a way to make it work!
